It was a great ending to the season at the 2015 Grand National & World Championship Morgan Horse Show where Rick chalked up another Open Western Pleasure World Championship with Marilyn Esteb's beautiful home bred stallion SP Remington (Whispering Whamunition x Cobridge Maximum Affair). "Max" and Rick started off their week as the Western Pleasure Stallion/Gelding Reserve Grand National Champion before taking the top title on Saturday evening. Also taking home a world title in his age group was Robert Morgan's impressive young stallion RJMF Zappa (ZZ Top x Riesca), who closed out a good season by
sweeping the three year old division here as the Three Year Old Western Pleasure Stallion & Gelding Grand National Champion, the Three Year Old Western Pleasure World Champion and finally bringing the loot home to Ohio as the Three Year Old Futurity Three Year Old Western Pleasure World Champion.
Janelle Schroeder and Rick shared the saddle with Brenda & John Matusik's gorgeous mare Latours Perfection (Beethoven x Jesture's Jennifer), who earned the Western Pleasure Mares Reserve Grand National Championship with Rick to start her week. Janelle then took over and earned the Western Pleasure Ladies Mare Reserve Grand National Championship in a tough class, then turned in two more great rides to make the Top Five in World Champion Ladies Western Pleasure, Grand National Western Pleasure Ladies Amateur Mare as well.
The 2015 Summer's End Horse Show was a great chance to put the finishing touches on our OKC contenders, and to break out new faces. Rick, Marti Lockwood and Arrowhead's Captain Morgan enjoyed a winning streak here in the Open, Amateur/Jr Exhibitor and the ASB Country Western Pleasure Championship. John & Leah Monte's Mountjoy's Black Betty, a beautiful black ASB mare, swept the Opportunity Western Pleasure division at this show with Rick aboard. Stacey Resler enjoyed two great rides on her beautiful Hollybrook Touche, winning the Western Pleasure Amateur Masters class and the Western Pleasure Ladies Amateur (did not show back in a championship). And finally, Treble's High End Piece found a new partner for tricolor endeavors in Alyssa Williams, who presented him to two awesome rides for the win in Morgan Amateur Hunter Pleasure and the Amateur Hunter Pleasure Championship for Manasota Morgans. This gorgeous hunter is available for purchase!
The Jubilee Regional Championship Morgan Horse Show is another very competitive show also held in a beautiful and historic location at the famed Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield. Lori Sargeant's Playmor's Date Night won both the Western Pleasure Novice Horse and the Western Pleasure Gentlemen with Rick up. Another impressive black gelding, Sarde's Beyond Definition teamed up with Rick to win the Western Pleasure Junior Horse Championship after a good reserve in the Four Year Old qualifier with owner/breeder Roxanne Sardelli Greenway in the stands to enjoy the show. The beautiful Latour's Perfection won the Western Pleasure Mares with Rick for owner/breeder Brenda Matusik here, and also rejoined Janelle Schroeder for a red ribbon in Western Pleasure Amateur 40 & Over. SP Remington (pictured right) has had a great year in the open division, and chalked up another win in the Open Western Pleasure Stallions & Geldings with Rick in the saddle for Marilyn Esteb's Stone Pine Farm.
The New England Regional Championship Morgan Horse Show is one of the crown jewels of the Morgan show world, and is held at the historic Northhampton Fairgrounds in Massachusetts. We've enjoyed attending this show the last couple of years and feel the competition and wonderful atmosphere is well worth the trip. This year, we enjoyed many excellent victory passes here. Playmor's Date Night, Lori Sargeant's beautiful black gelding, won the Western Pleasure Limit Horse and was reserve in a large class of Western Pleasure Gentlemen with Rick up. Manasota Morgans' Hollybrook Touche was the winner of the Western Pleasure Stallions & Geldings class and went on to become the East Coast Western Pleasure Reserve Champion under the direction of Rick. Enjoying
his first trip on his home turf, Sarde's Beyond Definition warmed up by earning the reserve spot in the Western Pleasure Four Year Old qualifier, then nailing it to win the Junior Horse Western Pleasure Championship with Rick in the saddle for Rob & Roxanne Sardelli-Greenway of Sarde Morgans in Clayville, RI. Our friend Janelle Schroeder flew in from Chicago to team up with Brenda & John Matusik's beautiful mare, Latour's Perfection, and they had two awesome rides to show for it. After Rick piloted her to a reserve in Open Mares, Janelle took to the saddle and turned in a solid ride for the red ribbon in Amateur Ladies, finishing her week with third in the very competitive Amateur Western Pleasure Championship. Morgan Horse Farm's RJMF Zappa turned in a smooth ride for second place in Western Pleasure Three Year Olds with Rick.
The Gold Cup Regional Championship Morgan Horse Show in Columbus, Ohio has enjoyed a tremendous resurgence in the last two years, attracting competition from far and wide. We took a small group of horses to this show and considered our hard earned ribbons were impressive at this level. Brenda Matusik's beautiful Latour's Perfection was reserve in a tough group of Western Pleasure Mares with Rick in the saddle. Repeating their wins from the Citrus Cup Regional, SP Remington and Rick won both the Stallions/Geldings qualifier and the Western Pleasure Grand Championship here for Stone Pine Farm in Larkspur, CO. Making his western pleasure debut here was RJMF Zappa, who handily won the Three Year Old Western Pleasure qualifier (did not show back) for Robert Morgan's Morgan Horse Farm in Lebanon, Ohio, shown by Rick. Kinzu Gracefilly Wild was dressed in red at this show, taking seconds in both Western Pleasure Gentlemen and Western Pleasure Limit Horse for Kinzu Morgans.
Raleigh, North Carolina in the spring is a beautiful place to show a horse, and the Southern States Regional Championship Morgan Horse Show does a great job of providing hospitality and great competition. Hollybrook Touche and Stacey Resler won the Western Pleasure Amateur Masters class on their way to a Reserve Championship in Amateur Western Pleasure for Manasota Morgans. Sarde's Beyond Definition turned in a solid ride for a good red ribbon in the Western Pleasure Limit Horse with Rick up. Rick took Latour's Perfection through her paces to win the Western Pleasure Mares and Western Pleasure Gentlemen before turning over the reins to ace catch-rider Anne Morgan-Flynt, who guided her to a win in Western Pleasure Ladies before earning a Reserve in the Ladies Western
Pleasure Championship for Brenda & John Matusik's Latour Morgans in Umatilla, FL. It was a clean sweep for Kinzu Gracefilly Wild (pictured right) and Rick in the Junior Horse Western Pleasure division here, winning both the championship and the qualifier for Daryl & Kathy Pierce's Kinzu Morgans in Pennsylvania. SpiceOLife Rightful Heir and Rick were right on target here, winning the Open Western Pleasure Stallions/Geldings and finishing up as the Open Western Pleasure Champions for Don & Mary Geisler's SpiceOLife Morgans in Ocala. Alix Mitchell-Olson came back from her wedding celebration to guide Treble's High End Piece to a win in the tough Open Hunter Pleasure class for Manasota Morgans. Southern States also has a very strong dressage division, and Andrew Brown's Stilwell Volt was up for the challenge. Rick and Volt warmed up with a second place in Trail, then went on to win Western Dressage Level 1 Test 1, Basic Level Test 3 and Intro Level Test 3.
The Dixie Cup Classic in Conyers, GA is a beautifully run show in a great facility. Already enjoying a great year, Marti Lockwood and Arrowhead's Captain Morgan won the ASB Country Western Pleasure Stake and qualifier in fine style. Stablemate Mountjoy's Black Betty, under the ownership of Leah and John Monty, turned in a solid ride for a second place in Opportunity Western Pleasure Novice Horse with Rick in the saddle. Kinzu Gracefilly Wild made her 2015 debut here with wins in Morgan Western Pleasure Junior/Novice Horse and the Opportunity Western Pleasure Stake with Rick in the saddle. Making his debut in the show ring here was Don & Mary Geisler's beautiful stallion SpiceOLife Rightful Heir, who won the Morgan Open Western Pleasure qualifier with Rick.
Back to Newberry, FL for the 2015 Citrus Cup Regional Championship Morgan Horse Show in April, where we enjoyed several super rides and were well rewarded for the effort. Arrowhead's Captain Morgan and Rick took a victory pass in the ASB Open Country Western Pleasure class, then owner Marti Lockwood took over and claimed the Country Western Pleasure Championship and Amateur/Jr Exhibitor qualifier. Sarde's Beyond Definition made it two for two by winning the Western Pleasure Junior Horse and the Western Pleasure Junior Horse Championship with Rick up for Sarde Morgans. Brenda Matusik has bred some beautiful horses under her Latour Morgans prefix, and her Latours Perfection is certainly one of her best. She and Rick enjoyed back to back wins in Western Pleasure Mares and Western Pleasure Gentlemen here. Marilyn Esteb's Stone Pine Farm of Colorado has produced another extraordinarily beautiful western horse in SP Remington. "Max" and Rick won both the Open Stallions/Geldings and the Western Pleasure Championship here and are looking very competitive for the national scene. Andrew Brown's versatile stallion, Stilwell Volt, turned in blue ribbon rides in English/Western Trail, Opportunity Western Dressage Basic Level TOC 1-4 and Opportunity Western Dressage Level 1 TOC-1-4, which earned him the Opportunity Western Dressage High Score Reserve Championship with Rick doing the honors.
At the 2015 Gasparilla Charity Show in Tampa, FL, a few new faces enjoyed some great rides. Manasota Morgans' beautiful World Champion Hollybrook Touche (pictured left with Stacey Resler up) continued his winning ways here winning the Morgan Amateur Western Pleasure Championship and qualifier with Stacey Resler in the saddle, and taking a Reserve Championship home with a blue ribbon in the OTAB Western Pleasure qualifier with Rick up. Marti Lockwood and her beautiful ASB gelding, Arrowhead's Captain Morgan, won both the Country Western Pleasure qualifier and the Shatner Western Pleasure class. Making his debut in this division was Roxanne Sardelli Greenway's elegant black four year old gelding, Sarde's Beyond Definition, who jogged to a second place with Rick in the Morgan Western Pleasure Junior/Novice Horse class. RCV Precisely Right made two victory passes for owner Ariana Varveris, winning the Open qualifier and the Morgan Western Pleasure Championship with Rick aboard. Also bringing home a tricolor ribbon was Alix Mitchell and Treble's High End Piece, the entry of Manasota Morgans, Jim Little and Stacey Resler, who earned the Morgan Hunter Pleasure Reserve Championship.
Our 2015 show season started at the Jubilee of Breeds Show in Newberry, Florida, just a hop, skip and a jump from home. Arrowhead's Captain Morgan topped all three of his classes in style, winning the ASB Country Western Pleasure Championship and qualifier with owner Marti Lockwood in the saddle, and winning the Open Country Western Pleasure with Rick. A new face for this division, Ariana Varveris' RCV Precisely Right and Rick won all three of their classes here. This beautiful dark chestnut gelding was the OTAB Western Pleasure Champion after winning the qualifier as well as the Morgan Open Western Pleasure class. And a new face to the Florida hunter pleasure division, Treble's High End Piece, won the Morgan Hunter Hack, Morgan Hunter Pleasure and finally the Morgan Hunter Pleasure Championship with Alix Mitchell up for Manasota Morgans. And in the dressage ring, Stilwell Volt won the Morgan Western Dressage Pattern I & II with Rick up for Andrew Brown of Stilwell Morgans.
